Consultation Result

Great response to our foundation trust consultation

We received a great response to our public consultation on our plans to become a foundation trust. Nearly 500 people told us their views and we’re delighted that nearly everyone supports our view that becoming a foundation trust is a great opportunity for the hospital and the community we serve.

The 12-week consultation began in May and ended in August and drew a response from people across Enfield and Haringey of varying ages, sex and ethnicity as well as our staff and our patient representative forum.

There were questions about nine key proposals for the way the foundation trust is governed and the representation of public and staff members on a council of governors.

At least 50 per cent of responses expressed support for all nine proposals. Seven of the proposals received more than 70 per cent support. The most contested area was our proposal to set the minimum age of membership at 16 rather than older - 28 per cent disagreed with this. A further 43 per cent disagreed with 16 being the minimum age to stand for election as a governor of the council of governors.

We’ve noted these responses, but it’s our firm belief that 16 and 17-year-olds should have the opportunity to be involved in helping to shape the hospital’s future, just as they did in the recent Scottish independence referendum.

However, we will be changing our constituencies as a result of responses we received, recognising increasing levels of activity for people living in Hertfordshire. We will retain four membership constituencies in Enfield, Haringey, the rest of England and Wales and will change the ‘rest of London’ constituency to the ‘rest of London and Hertfordshire’. Thank you to everyone who took the time to give us your views.
