In 2016 the hospital and its local health partners in Haringey and Enfield became concerned that patients were not receiving the quality of experience that they should. For example, patients were experiencing long waits in A&E and staying in hospital longer than necessary.
A new programme, Safer, Faster, Better, was created to look into the underlying causes to improve patient experience for local people. Work began in May 2016. There are four different project groups looking at making improvements in flow, discharge planning and preventing admission in and out of hospital.
The programme will last until March 2017 and the first practical changes to working patterns have begun to be put in place. The good news is that some indicators, such as A&E waiting times, have already started improving. We aim to sustainably achieve the national four hour see and treat target for 95% of A&E patients by the end of March 2017.
