Experts from North Middlesex University Hospital’s eye screening team will continue to help thousands of diabetic Londoners to beat sight loss, following the award of a new five year contract by NHS England.
The eye team screens diabetic patients at hospitals, GP surgeries and clinics in Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington and uses a mobile screening van to reach dozens of other locations, like supermarket car parks and mosques.
The service, known as North Central London Diabetic Eye Screening Programme
(NCL-DESP), has been managed by North Middlesex University Hospital since its launch in 2012. It has been recognised as one of the best in the country by fellow professionals, receiving praise for the high levels of access it provides to patients. The new contract started on 1 November 2015.
Eye screening goes mobile
Our diabetic eye screening service which serves 70,000 patients across north London has created a new mobile service to extend its reach.
The new mobile screening van takes the team to GP surgeries in Enfield, Haringey, Barnet, Camden and Islington, as well as local community groups, supermarkets and religious centres’, increasing the likelihood that patients with diabetes will take up appointments booked through their GP Practice.
It is the latest improvement to the hospitals highly praised diabetic eye screening programme and if you want to know when the van will be in your area please feel free to contact us.
