We provide a full range of acute services, including 24-hour accident and emergency, elderly, paediatric, cancer, heart, surgical and emergency medicine as well as comprehensive diagnostic and outpatient services. See our full list..

North Mid A&E: patients asked to use alternative NHS services where possible due to exceptional pressure

 

Residents in Enfield and Haringey are being asked to use alternatives to North Middlesex University Hospital's A&E department if their condition is not an emergency, due to the exceptional pressure the department is currently under.

Other NHS services include local pharmacies, GPs (family doctors), walk-in clinics and NHS 111, the free, telephone service for non-emergencies to help you find the NHS service you need (see poster of other NHS services). 

GP appointments now available during the evening, at weekends and on public holidays
GPs (family doctors) in Enfield and Haringey now run a GP Hub service which offers residents appointments during the evening, at weekends and on public holidays. Details of GP (family doctor) appointment times are on the My Health London website


GP Hubs in Enfield 
Appointments with a GP can be booked at an Enfield GP Hub by calling 03000 333 666. The times are as follows: 
Evenings, Monday–Friday, 6.30pm-8pm
Weekends and public holidays, 8am-8pm

Enfield GP Hubs are at these locations: 

Evergreen Primary Care Centre, 1 Smythe Close, Edmonton N9 0TW
Carlton House Surgery, 28 Tenniswood Road, Enfield EN1 3LL 
The Woodberry Practice, 1 Woodberry Avenue, Winchmore Hill N21 3LE  


GP Hubs in Haringey  
Appointments with a GP can be booked at a Haringey GP Hub by calling 0330 053 9499. the times are as follows: 
Evenings, Monday–Friday, 6.30pm-8.30pm
Weekends and public holidays, 8am-8pm

 

Haringey GP Hubs are at these locations: 
Bounds Green Group Practice, Gordon Road, London N11 2PF 
Somerset Gardens Family Health Centre, 4 Creighton Road, London N17 8NW 
Queenswood Medical Practice, 151 Park Road, London N8 8JD 

NHS Choices website has useful information for patients about local health services and symptoms. 

GP Hubs now provide evening and weekend appointments for Haringey and Enfield residents. NHS alternatives to A&E services are as follows:  

Your local pharmacist
Pharmacists offer professional free health advice at any time - you don't need an appointment. From coughs and colds to aches and pains, they can give you expert help on everyday illnesses. They can answer questions about prescribed and over-the-counter medicines. 

Many pharmacists offer a service known as the minor ailment scheme for free advice and medicine to treat common conditions without you needing to visit a GP (your family doctor) to get a prescription. 

Our local clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) have details of the minor ailments scheme on their websites: Enfield CCG and Haringey CCG

 

NHS 111 - free telephone help to find the right service

You can call 111 when you need medical help fast but it’s not a 999 emergency. Call 111 and speak to a highly trained adviser, supported by healthcare professionals. They will assess your symptoms and immediately direct you to the best medical care for you.  The service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free. For more information visit www.nhs.uk/111 

NHS Choices website

The NHS Choices website (www.nhs.uk) has information about conditions and treatments, an automated symptom checker and information about commonly used medicines. It also provides details of all NHS providers in England, including local GPs (family doctors). Patients may provide and read feedback on NHS services.

An independent study into patients’ attendance at North Middlesex University Hospital’s emergency department (ED) has examined 37,000 pieces of data and undertaken more than 600 individual interviews to determine what brings patients to the ED rather than use another NHS service, even for conditions that are not life-threatening like coughs, colds and sore throats.

Car parking at the hospital

Our contractor has recently introduced a new number plate recognition system to improve the management of parking at North Mid. The procedures have changed slightly.
