North Middlesex University Hospital has launched a new easy-to-book GP blood tests service for local people.
Anyone needing a blood test requested by their GP (family doctor) can book it online or by telephone in advance to avoid having to queue.
Patients who book their appointment in advance are usually seen within 10 minutes of arriving and checking in. There are two ways to book a GP blood test appointment in advance:
· Book in advance online at: www.northmid.nhs.uk/Our-Services/Blood-tests
· Book in advance by phone: call 020 8887 2366 (9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday).
Patients who walk in without an appointment can still have a blood sample taken but they will join a queue of other patients with no appointment and may have to wait for up to two hours at the busiest times, so booking an appointment in advance can prevent a long and frustrating wait.
Around 800 people a day use the GP blood tests service at the hospital in Sterling Way, Edmonton. The blood tests service has been recently relocated in the outpatient’s department in the hospital’s main building. A team of expert staff, known as phlebotomists, take about five minutes each to take each patient’s blood sample and complete the paperwork before the sample is sent to a pathology laboratory for analysis.
All blood test patients must check in on arrival – either with the blood test reception staff or at an electronic kiosk. The new service came into effect earlier this year. The hospital is reaching out to local people to help explain how the new system works and to help reduce waiting times.
