Dedicated staff celebrate achievements at staff awards

Hundreds of dedicated North Mid staff celebrated the extraordinary work of their colleagues at the hospital’s annual Our Staff Awards ceremony last night (Tuesday 2 October)

Four hundred staff, partners and members of the local community attended the glittering evening event at Alexandra Palace to thank them for their part in providing excellent care for local people.

NHS Blood and Transplant’s B Positive choir – finalists in ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year  launched the night’s celebrations with a rousing performance of their popular anthem “Rise Up”.

North Middlesex University Hospital’s Chief Executive, Maria Kane, told the audience: “It’s a pleasure to be here at these awards for the first time as your Chief Executive. I am immensely proud of the hard work, positive changes and collaborative efforts taking placing across the hospital, highlighted by tonight’s winners and every single award nominee.

“We are honouring all North Mid’s fantastic staff here and back at the hospital tonight for the great care you provide for local people, our patients.”

The winners in 13 award categories (listed below) included Frances Evans, associate medical director and one of the hospital’s Freedom to Speak Up Guardians. She scooped the CEO Award in recognition of her “passion and willingness to assist others”.

The hospital’s urology team received the accolade of Clinical Team of the Year.

A&E porters were named winners of the Unsung Hero Partner category for their “devotion and hard work” transferring seriously ill patients in and out of the busy department.

The Improvement Award was won by A&E’s “shared network” mental health liaison team, who support hundreds of patients in the department each year.

Fifteen members of staff, each of whom have worked continuously for 25 years or more at the hospital, also received Long Service Awards for their dedicated care to patients.

The hospital’s Our Staff Awards showcases, recognises and celebrates the contribution and achievements of its staff in caring for the local community.  Employees across North Middlesex University Hospital are encouraged to identify and nominate the colleagues they believe best exemplify the Trust’s core values: to be caring, helpful, open and honest and to be a team player.
