Staff at North Middlesex University Hospital were delighted to receive crates full of Christmas presents for its junior and elderly patients earlier this week (Monday 17 December) as they welcomed a group of six local Tesco supermarket managers into the hospital for a quick delivery before the festive holidays.
The children’s presents were purchased by the hundreds of Tesco staff working across five of the nationwide chain’s larger Extra stores in north London – its Lea Valley, Ponders End, Highams Park, South Tottenham and Stroud Green branches. In just a matter of weeks, employees at these stores collectively raised hundreds of pounds in donations using their own money, to create a very special Christmas gift fund just for North Mid’s patients.
Each of the five stores purchased toys, games, dolls and art and craft materials for the hospital’s paediatrics department. The team also brought crates full of fresh fruit, refreshing juices, delicious mince pies and festive bitesize chocolates to share with patients on the hospital’s older people’s wards - much to the delight of North Mid staff.
Tracey Norris, head of nursing for the women’s, children & clinical support services division at North Mid said: “Thank you so much to all the staff at our local Tesco stores - we are amazed at their generosity and so grateful for their time and efforts in fundraising gifts for our patients.
“Christmas is always a very busy time across all of our departments however, these donations will be a huge help to the Trust’s doctors and nursing teams as they will bring some joy and smiles to the faces of those we treat during the festive period.”
