Coronavirus (COVID-19) guidance for hospital visitors

Thursday, March 19, 2020

North Middlesex University Hospital is putting temporary measures in place to protect patients, visitors and staff during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.

Changes from Sunday 22 March

We are currently restricting visiting on some of our wards, in order to keep patients and staff as safe as possible.

Please check before you come to visit a patient, and follow public health advice to avoid unnecessary journeys.

If you need to come to our A&E, please come alone – you will not be allowed to be accompanied unless it’s for safeguarding or translation reasons.

On all our other wards and departments, visiting will be limited to only essential visitors. Examples of essential visitors are:

  • Neonatal unit and children's wards - restricted to parents only and open all day
  • Maternity – restricted to birthing partners or one named person
  • Those who are unable to make decisions for themselves, in line with the mental capacity act regulations, may be accompanied
  • In some cases, such as where patients are critically ill or nearing the end of their life, we will of course do our very best to accommodate your visiting needs. If you have a special request in relation to visiting a patient, please speak to the nurse in charge of the ward.

Please follow all of our infection control measures if you do come to hospital:

  • You should avoid coming to the hospital if you are feeling unwell, including with cold or flu symptoms
  • Wash or gel your hands as soon as you enter a ward or unit
  • Follow the additional measures that will be requested by our staff if you are visiting a patient with an infection

Please be reminded that normal guidance applies if you are experiencing diarrhoea, vomiting, or flu-like symptoms: please do not visit the hospital.
