The radiology department provides a wide range of imaging services across a range of specialities including:

• plain X-ray
• magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
• computed tomography (CT)
• ultrasound
• mammography
• nuclear medicine
• fluoroscopy

Services have been developed to provide open access to plain X-ray for patients every day, for MRI, extended opening hours (including weekends) for ultrasound, CT and MRI appointments. The department also services the A&E department, providing access to plain X-rays and CT scans 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

What we offer
The department uses state of the art equipment including two GE CT scanners, a Philips 3-tesla MRI scanner, 18 ultrasound units, new mammography and fluoroscopy units, nuclear medicine, digital X-ray equipment and a picture archiving and communication system.

St Ann’s Hospital also has digital X-ray equipment and is linked to the picture archiving and communication system. Dedicated to plain X-rays, it provides a fast and efficient X-ray service with minimal waiting times.

St Ann’s Hospital:
Plain X-ray, walk-in service: Monday to Friday, 9am–4pm

North Middlesex University Hospital:
Plain X-ray, walk-in service: every day, 8am–10pm
MRI scans (booked appointments only): Monday to Friday, 8am–8pm;
Saturday and Sunday, 8am–5pm
CT scans (booked appointments): Monday to Saturday, 8am–5pm
Ultrasound scans (booked appointments)
Nuclear medicine: Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm

The services are delivered from five locations:

St Ann’s Hospital: plain X-rays (walk-in service)

North Middlesex University Hospital:
• Main building, level 0 (signposted as the MRI unit): plain X-rays (walk-in service) and booked MRI appointments and
  CT scans 
• Main building, level 1 (signposted as the X–ray unit): booked CT scans, ultrasound and fluoroscopy appointments
• Maternity unit, level -1: booked ultrasound scans
• Podium building, level 0: booked isotope scans

How to refer
Referral through GP and doctor

Plain X-ray (open access) – provide patients with a completed request form and send the patient to North Middlesex University Hospital or St Ann’s Hospital. If patients prefer an appointment, please contact our radiology department on 020 8887 3092 or St Ann’s Hospital’s on 020 8442 6383.

MRI scans
Referral through GP or doctor who will complete a MRI request form and MRI patient safety questionnaire and send to department. On receipt, the patients will be contacted and an appointment booked.

CT scans
Referral through GP or doctor who will  complete a request form and send to the department. On receipt, the patients will be contacted and an appointment booked.  Once you have received your appointment date, if you wish to change the date or cancel please email:

Ultrasound scans
