The radiology department provides a wide range of imaging services across a range of specialities including:
• plain X-ray
• magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
• computed tomography (CT)
• nuclear medicine
• fluoroscopy and interventional radiology
Services have been developed to provide extended opening hours (including weekends) for
plain X-ray ultrasound, CT and MRI appointments. The department also services the A&E department, providing access to plain X-rays and CT scans 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
What we offer
The department uses state of the art equipment including two GE CT scanners, a Philips 3-tesla MRI scanner, 18 ultrasound units, new mammography and fluoroscopy units, nuclear medicine, digital X-ray equipment and a picture archiving and communication system for storing images electronically.
St Ann’s Hospital also has digital X-ray and ultrasound equipment which is linked to the picture archiving and communication system. It provides a fast and efficient service with minimal waiting times.
St Ann’s Hospital:
Plain X-ray, walk-in service: Monday to Friday, 9am–4pm. Ultrasound by appointment only.
Please note that this walk in service will end on 31 March 2020.
North Middlesex University Hospital:
Plain X-ray, walk-in service: every day, 8am–10pm
MRI scans (booked appointments only): daily 8am-9pm
CT scans (booked appointments):daily 8am-8pm
Ultrasound scans (by appointment only) Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat-Sun 9am-5pm
Nuclear medicine: Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm

The services are delivered from five locations:
St Ann’s Hospital: ground floor of the St Ann's building
North Middlesex University Hospital:
• Main building, level 0: MR and GP plain film (signposted as the MRI and GP X-Rays)
• Main building, level 1: booked CT scans, ultrasound and fluoroscopy appointments (signposted as the radiology
• Maternity unit, level -1: Antenatal ultrasound scans (signposted as Maternity unit)
• Podium building, level 0: booked isotope scans (signposted as Nuclear Medicine)
Please note that details of the location will be provided on the appointments letter and patients should take this to their appointment.
How to refer
All referral is via a completed request form from your GP or hospital doctor.
Plain X-ray (open access) – provide patients with a completed request form and send the patient to North Middlesex University Hospital or St Ann’s Hospital. If patients prefer an appointment, please contact our radiology department on 020 8887 6626.
Referral through GP or doctor who will complete a MRI request form and MRI patient safety questionnaire and send to radiology department. On receipt, the patients will be contacted and an appointment booked.
