Stroke / Transient ischaemic attack (TIA) services

Stroke / Transient ischaemic attack (TIA) services

We provide expert stroke services with a 20 bed acute stroke unit for patients requiring acute medical and rehabilitation care following the hyper acute phase (up to 72 hours after the event). In 2013, the acute stroke unit moved into a purpose-built new ward for patients recovering from stroke.

What we offer
Daily consultant-led ward rounds (Monday to Friday), and three  weekly specialist clinics for stroke/TIA.

High risk TIA patients will be seen within 24 hours by a specialist consultant, investigated and given appropriate treatment, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.

A six month assessment by the stroke network gave the unit a score of 28 out of 29. The criteria that is assessed incorporates every aspect of a stroke patient’s care and includes how long a patient is treated on a dedicated stroke ward, access to therapeutic care, and the quality of specialist nursing intervention.

Key staff
