Our ophthalmology department provides a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment ophthalmic service to patients who live in the boroughs of Enfield and Haringey.  We manage referrals within the 18 week referral-to-treatment target.

The department provides a full complement of diagnostics, assessment and treatments for eye conditions associated with general ophthalmology, paediatric, medical retinopathy, including intravitreal injections, glaucoma (inclusive of laser), orthoptists, opticians and lower vision specialties.  We will soon be expanding to include oculoplastic and vitreo-retinal.

For over 30 years, we have been based at the North Middlesex University Hospital, and we currently run from a modern unit based in Clinics 2, 3 and 4 in the main outpatients’ department area.

We also provide community clinics based at both Chase Farm and Cheshunt community hospitals to support the government's vision of providing care close to the patient.

All members of the team work together to provide an excellent quality of care to our patients. Our ophthalmology service is recognised for its culture of learning, which is especially important for the junior doctors who are based in the department every August to August as part of their trainee program.

All outpatients’ appointments at North Mid take place in Clinic 3.  Urgent care services in Clinic 2.  The Injection suite for the intravitreal injection aspect of the service takes place in Clinic 4.  Patients having their operations e.g. cataracts will report to the Day Surgery Unit.
