Put the kettle on and fundraise for North Mid Charity

Customers and staff of four Morrisons supermarkets across north London have delivered the goods – literally! – to make the NHS Big Tea bring a smile and a cuppa to the staff and patients of North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust this week.

A truckload of donations including tea, coffee, cakes, biscuits and other snacks was dropped off to the north London hospital by the community champions of Morrisons supermarkets in Wood Green, Stamford Hill, Palmers Green and Enfield, where they were gratefully received by the hospital’s team.

Associate director of nursing Joe Allan, and chief finance officer Bimal Patel, helped the supermarket colleagues unload the donations, which needed trolleys to help transport it from drop-off into the hospital.

The donated items are being used to run tea parties for patients and staff to mark the NHS’s 74th birthday on Tuesday 5 July 2022, along with other activities which aim to fundraise for the hospital trust’s own charity, North Mid Charity.

There will be a bake sale in the hospital’s main atrium from 11am on Tuesday – cash and card donations accepted – along with a prize draw for sports memorabilia and associated items including:

·         a signed Tottenham Hotspur FC shirt

·         a signed England Rugby shirt

·         two tickets for the Dare Skywalk over the top of the multi-million Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Flagship fundraising

Chief executive of North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust Dr Nnenna Osuji said

“The Big Tea is a flagship fundraising event for North Mid Charity, which itself is hugely important to the staff, patients and local community of North Mid. Over the past year, we’ve benefited from the charity’s support for more than 30 projects, including new recliner chairs for parents of babies being cared for in our neonatal unit, new coffee machines and extra microwaves for our staff rooms, and top-of-the-range activity equipment for some of our patients with dementia.

“More than just a source of funds for ‘extras’, our charity brings our people together. Whether it’s combining forces to run bake sales and tea parties, to literally climbing mountains – a team from our Trust undertook a sponsored Snowdon climb last month – we achieve so much more together, and that’s what the Big Tea helps North Mid Charity deliver.”
