North Mid celebrates its staff at annual awards

Staff from North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust switched their uniforms for ball gowns and bow ties yesterday (Wednesday 30 March 2022) to attend this year's Our Staff Awards event ceremony at north London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The glamourous event was hosted by magician and compere Nicholas Einhorn who expertly guided guests through the evening’s proceedings. The ceremony also welcomed special guest and Spurs legend, Ledley King - a former player turned first-team coach at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club – who welcomed attendees to the stadium.

The annual awards celebration was broadcast live on North Mid’s official Vimeo channel as part of the hybrid event, to enable more people to attend the ceremony virtually. During the ceremony, a short feel-good film called ‘Dear North Mid’ featuring patients and members of the local community thanking staff for their service was played.

In recognition of the amazing work, care and services being delivered across North Mid, staff were invited to nominate their peers across 13 categories including Clinical Team of Year, Volunteer of the Year, Unsung Hero and Sustainability Champion. Over 540 entries – the highest number ever - were received by the award judges, comprising of executive directors and former award winners, who voted to award accolades to a total of 33 winners and runners up.

The 14th category, the Chief Executive Award, was awarded to Francis Mate-Kole, a sickle cell specialist described by many of his patients as an ‘angel’ for the invaluable service of care he provides.

Dr Nnenna Osuji, Chief Executive of North Middlesex University Hospital, said: “It was my absolute pleasure – and honour - to be among such champions, heroes and superstars at last night’s ceremony. Every single one of our winners and runners-up is a shining light at North Mid – they are fantastic examples of the many across our workforce, working to deliver outstanding care and services for local people.

“As the pressures due to the pandemic, ‘winter’ and elective recovery continue across the NHS, I believe it is more important than ever to pay tribute to the thousands of dedicated staff working across our Trust. North Mid’s ‘Our Staff Awards’ is a great opportunity to do just this, and marks an important milestone in our calendar to celebrate the achievements of our teams.”
