North Mid Charity makes it a Christmas to remember for staff and patients

The festive season is always a difficult time for patients and their families which has been made better all thanks to our local community coming together in support - in particular for our children and younger patients.

Donations of all sizes have been received across the festive period - including a donation from Barclays Bank who has been supporting the hospital for over a decade. Gifts have been distributed far and wide across the Trust including our Paediatric Emergency department, in-patient and outpatient areas.

The North Mid Charity would like to thank all of the donors for their generosity this festive season including:

  • Barclays Bank (Edmonton Branch)
  • Children in Hospital PJs
  • Spread a Smile
  • Friday Banjannan Family
  • UKGC Help Centre
  • Enfield Rotary Club
  • RCCG Rehoboth Centre (Enfield)

The North Mid Charity’s Cards from our Community has also seen a huge response with hundreds of cards from local schools Oakthorpe Primary, Lavendar Primary and Aylward School being written and sent in ready to be delivered to patients across the Trust.

Jazz Trio bring all the vibes to North Mid

Visitors and colleagues were also gifted with jazz from local resident Nicola Burnett Smith and her Jazz Walk Trio who performed in the Atrium last Monday (19 December).  Jazz Trio

Strolling by the grand piano in the Atrium, staff and patients were privileged to see Gundula Stojanova Gruen on violin and vocals, Fraser Parry on piano and Nicola Burnett Smith on clarinet and vocals. They have been working together in various combinations for nearly 20 years, in venues ranging from concert halls to arts centers and international festivals. Their shared love for playing jazz has brought them together to create the trio and to play for you in support of North Mid Charity and the Trust.

Drawing an audience from across the hospital, the Trio performed a variety of jazz tunes with a few festive numbers added into the mix. The performance was so popular that it enticed local North Mid ‘celebrity’ Mario to pop along with his percussion instruments and join in! Mario is well known with colleagues at North Mid, playing on the grand piano when he pops in for appointments since 2018!

Mete Redif, fundraising manager said: “It’s amazing to have members of our local community give up their time to support the Trust in any way that they feel that they can. We feel so glad that Nicola reached out to us and offer to perform for us alongside Gundula and Fraser. We hope this won’t be the last we see of the Jazz Walk Trio.

“The outpouring of support and love from our local community is so heart warming. We are so lucky to be a part of a community that comes together in times of need and look after their own.”
