North Mid pulls together to support those in need in Ukraine

Staff at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust, in North London, have pulled together to help those in need in Ukraine.

Despite being almost 2,000 miles away, our North Mid family were determined to do whatever we could do to help.

So over the past few weeks, through working with The Ukrainian Association, based in Cheshunt, we pulled together and donated boxes of out-of-date medical supplies, essential lifestyle items and more.

Donations directly from staff personally included toothbrushes, toothpaste, wet wipes, thermals, socks, tools like torches and waterproof ground sheets and food and drink.

Further donations included clothes and toiletries for women and children affected.

North Mid and fellow NHS organisations across north central London have been gathering any expired medical supplies (excluding medications) to send to medics on the ground in Ukraine and at the borders.

We asked all colleagues in our clinical areas to keep an eye out for any out of date stock in their stores.

We have also offered further support for our colleagues with links to Ukraine and all other members of staff who have been indirectly affected by what they have seen.

Here at North Mid, it has been heart-warming to see staff from all different cultures and backgrounds pull together to help out.

Dr Nnenna Osuji, Chief Executive Officer, at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust, said: “I want to thank all of my staff who have donated essential items, clothing, food and more out of their own pockets and homes to help those in need in Ukraine.

“The response to our call has been mind-blowing and it has really taken me back. What we have seen in the news since the conflict started in Ukraine has shocked us all.

“However, it has been really touching to see how we have all, as a country, come together to do what we can and the same goes for everyone who has helped here at North Mid.”
