North Mid raises a ‘cuppa’ and some money to mark 74th Birthday

  • North Mid celebrates 74th birthday of the NHS in style
  • Local supermarket donates tea and biscuits for staff and patients to enjoy
  • North Mid Charity raises over £1000 in NHS Birthday Celebrations

On Tuesday 5 July the NHS turned 74 years old and celebrated with its annual ‘Big Tea’ event.

To mark the special occasion, the North Mid Charity hosted a number of different activities across  North Mid to celebrate and raise awareness of the charity.

A number of budding bakers put their culinary skills to the test with a huge selection of tasty treats available in the hospital’s main atrium which were a huge success with staff and patients alike.

Four local Morrisons supermarkets generously donated tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits so that patients and staff on North Mid’s care of the elderly wards could host their very own tea parties.

After having their fill of tasty treats, staff and patients had the opportunity to take advantage of the enormous charity of local football clubs Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and West Ham who donated a staggering amount of baby clothes. Passers-by were able to make a charitable contribution and pick a selection of items available.

For those who were feeling lucky, they were able to enter the North Mid Charity Prize Draw to be in with a chance to win:

  • A signed Tottenham Hotspur shirt
  • A signed England rugby shirt
  • 2 x tickets for the ‘Dare Sky Walk’ over the Tottenham Hotspur stadium
  • 2 x premier tickets for Newmarket Racecourse in October

The event was a huge success, with the charity raising over £1000 for staff and patients at North Mid.

Chief executive of North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust Dr Nnenna Osuji said

“The Big Tea is a flagship fundraising event for North Mid Charity, which itself is hugely important to the staff, patients and local community of North Mid. Over the past year, we’ve benefited from the charity’s support for more than 30 projects, including new recliner chairs for parents of babies being cared for in our neonatal unit, new coffee machines and extra microwaves for our staff rooms, and top-of-the-range activity equipment for some of our patients with dementia.

“More than just a source of funds for ‘extras’, our charity brings our people together. Whether it’s combining forces to run bake sales and tea parties, to literally climbing mountains – a team from our Trust undertook a sponsored Snowdon climb last month – we achieve so much more together, and that’s what the Big Tea helps North Mid Charity deliver.”
