North Mid’s Chief Executive to take up new role in Bristol

Maria Kane, Chief Executive of North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust, is to take up a new post as Chief Executive of a major acute hospital trust in Bristol, the two Trusts announced today (Tue 6 Oct).

Maria has been successfully appointed to the post of Chief Executive at North Bristol NHS Trust, one of two major NHS acute providers in the south west regional city. She will take up the post in April 2021, after serving her six-month notice period at North Mid.

Maria said today:

“I am thrilled to have accepted the role of Chief Executive at North Bristol NHS Trust, but as you would imagine, it’s with a heavy heart that I will say goodbye to North Mid.

“I have been an NHS leader in north London for a long time, and it’s an absolute central part of my being, so it wasn’t an easy decision to reach, but with family now located in the south west, it was the right time to take this next step.”

Chair of North Mid Cedi Frederick said:

“On a personal level, I’m pleased for Maria as this is an exciting move for her both personally and professionally, but I am of course disappointed that she will be leaving our Trust. As you would expect, there will be a transition period – Maria will remain at North Mid until the Spring, before starting at North Bristol in April 2021.

“Over the next few months, I will be working closely with NHS England and Improvement, with partners in the local health and care system, and with North Mid’s leadership team, to develop plans for recruitment of a strong successor, and a smooth handover.”

“I would like to take this early opportunity to put on record my gratitude to Maria for the leadership she has shown to North Mid over the past three years, and to the NHS in north London for more than a decade, and to commit to ensuring North Mid and our local community continues to benefit from strong leadership, working collaboratively, and putting our local population at the very heart of what it does.”
