The future of North Mid unveiled, as hospital celebrates 100 years
North Middlesex University Hospital, in north London is celebrating its 100th Birthday this year. As part of its celebrations, the hospital has created a timeline of the Trust’s history which shows every decade in the Trust’s history and is displayed in the hospital’s atrium.
The display also showcases the Trust’s provisional plans for future regeneration, which will accommodate rising population numbers anticipated in Enfield and Haringey over the next 15 years. With the aim to transform the site into a vibrant, modern and environment, North Mid is working with the Greater London Authority to explore new housing opportunities, a multi-storey carpark, and new hospital facilities that complement the current state-of-the-art buildings. With improved housing, better employment opportunities and increased support for local businesses; the Trust aims to create a thriving community.
Planning for the future enables North Mid to better evaluate their clinical services as well as the changes they need to make to the site. This will enable them to not only assess the space needed to enhance its delivery and services but also continue to meet the needs of local people. As well as working with patients and staff, the Trust will also collaborate more closely with local partners to ensure patients receive the appropriate care and treatment. The new and improved regeneration development will not only improve patient experience but also enhance and expand the hospitals site whilst helping to reduce health inequalities in the local area.

As we celebrate our 100th birthday, it’s an excellent opportunity to not only reflect how far we’ve come, but also to plan for the future. That’s why we have set out to explore how we can make North Mid “fit for the future” and be a positive community asset – service eprovider, employer, purchaser, educator and neighbour. Our ambitious plans will help chart a future that will help us make sure we continue to provide outstanding care for the local community now, and for the next 100 years.”
Today’s hospital site was first established in 1842 when the Union workhouse was built to serve the “poor” of Edmonton, Enfield and Hornsey. Since then, the hospital has continued to evolve with the continual development of new research, data, medicine and building investments.
