Advice and guidance for services

We offer clinical advice and guidance to GPs on potential referrals through the NHS e-Referral Service (eRS), whether this leads to a referral being made or not.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we have asked all GPs to send all routine referrals through Advice and Guidance and not a referral. Our clinicians then can decide whether this will convert to referral or respond back with advice.

Advice and guidance is accessible through eRS. All services that are on our eRS system will have access available for GPs to request A&G.

Access the e-referral system (only accessible if you are an NHS staff member)

If, as part of the advice, we recommend referral then the decision and responsibility to refer remains with GPs.

Advice and guidance via Consultant Connect

North Middlesex is part of an NCL pilot to look at the feasibility of using Consultant Connect to provide an advice and guidance portal for GPs to access a routine specialist opinion in the following specialties:

  • Acute Medicine
  • Haematology (messaging only)
  • Colorectal Surgery
  • Paediatrics
  • Geriatric Medicine
  • Cardiology

If you are a GP in Enfield or Barnet please use Consultant Connect to obtain your advice, this can be either by message, telephone call or photo. For the duration of the pilot, using the A&G portal on eRS will not be processed by North Mid and will be returned to you unopened. Your routine referral will be answered quicker using Consultant Connect.

If you are not sure how to use Consultant Connect or have not downloaded the app, please contact Kat James for assistance by email kat.james@consultantconnect.org.uk
