Haringey Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Project supports paediatric red cell patients for the 24th year

North Mid Charity receives a donation of £1,400 from Haringey Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Project to support paediatric red cell patients at North Mid.

The Haringey Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia project returned to North Mid for the 24th year to donate to paediatric red cell patient projects at North Mid. Funds are raised at an annual Gospel festival held in Tottenham during October each year continuing the work of May Richards MBE (pictured) who first set up the festival in early 2000.

May Richards May was awarded an MBE for her continuous efforts to support Sickle Cell and Thalassemia projects. When she sadly died in 2020 at the age of 89, the core organizing group was joined by May’s niece, Nadine Mackenzie to continue May’s vision and inspiration.

During their visit, project leaders were shown some of the amazing work being undertaken using the funds which they provide on an annual basis; including supporting our paediatric red cell patient Christmas party and our “graduation” ceremonies where children and young people receiving red cell treatment transfer to our adult services.

Next year will mark 25 years of support for paediatric red cell services at North Mid for the Haringey Sickle Cell and Thalassemia project and we look forward to celebrating this milestone and acknowledging the memory of May’s work for her local community.

Keep a look out for details regarding the 25th Anniversary celebrations which will be shared via our website and social media channels in due course.
