North Mid Security Team Winning Award

The security team at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust in north London were crowned winner for Healthcare Security Team of the Year at the National Association for Healthcare Security last week.

The National Association for Healthcare Security, who run the awards, is a nonprofit professional body, promoting professional development and innovation for healthcare security. The association also acknowledges and celebrates excellence within healthcare security. It recognises innovation, exceptional service, and outstanding care.

North Mid’s security team received the National Award for Healthcare Security Team of the Year, recognising their commitment, dedication and excellence in keeping patients, visitors and staff safe. The team were particularly commended for its collaboration with the Metropolitan police in a year-long investigation into recurring car thefts, employing both overt and covert surveillance and implementing preventive measures. The team's exhaustive efforts earned commendation from the Metropolitan Police, expressed through a letter of thanks and a crown court commendation.

Alex Kuye, the head of security, accepted the award at last night’s ceremony, and he leads a dedicated team responsible for the management of security in the hospital, ensuring continuous 24-hour safety. Alex Kuye, head of security at North Mid said:

“Our team's unwavering commitment and proactive efforts secured this national honor amidst 229 competing NHS trusts. Despite our smaller size, we handle a higher incident volume, facing challenges head-on and maintaining professionalism under pressure. Our dedication extends beyond the clock, safeguarding not only staff, patients, and visitors but also the hospital's reputation. From countering organized crime in our car parks to addressing violence against our staff, we demonstrate resilience and a unique skill set. Collaborating with external partners, we've fortified safety measures, achieving tangible successes in protecting North Mid Hospital and its community."

The recognition from The National Association for Healthcare Security is a meaningful acknowledgment of the exceptional contributions our security team makes to community safety. It recognises their unwavering dedication and their crucial role in maintaining a secure and protected environment for everyone in our hospital.
