New books bring smiles to young patients

Young patients at North Mid are enjoying new books thanks to donations from staff and the trust’s library.

To mark World Book Day, over 50 books were given to North Mid’s children and young people’s department.

The books by a range of authors including Eric Hill, Jeff Kinney and Judith Kerr bought smiles to our young patients and will help take their minds off their treatment.

To celebrate the occasion, staff dressed up as Matilda, Pippi Longstocking, Darth Vadar, Harlequin, Wednesday Adams and a dalmatian. Children and young people visiting the hospital are also being given a book token to spend on a book of their choice.

Antionette Young, play leader, said: “We are really grateful to everyone who has donated books. These will make visiting us a little bit better and put smiles on so many faces.”

Spread a Smile, a charity which aims to brings joy and hope to children and young people in hospitals, hospices and homes across the UK, also sent the department some books.
