North Mid leader shortlisted for Nursing Times Award

A leader at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust has been shortlisted at the Nursing Times Workforce Awards 2023 for their work to significantly improve equality, diversity and inclusion for patients and staff across the Trust.

Dale Carrington, chief nursing information officer at North Mid, has been shortlisted in the Diversity and Inclusion Champion of the Year category. This important award recognises an individual who has made a significant improvement and continued commitment to championing equality, diversity and inclusion in the health and care workforce.

Dale has spearheaded work to make sure our digital systems and products reflect the diversity of the populations we serve as an inner London healthcare provider. Alongside his clinical responsibilities, he is chair of the LGBTQI+ staff network at the Trust and through this position, he has organised workshops focused on trans inclusion and addressing LGBTQI+ issues. These workshops have served to nurture a workforce and culture that values diversity, creating a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQI+ individuals within the healthcare setting. In addition, Dale has made it a priority to mentor and support global majority colleagues, enabling them to leverage their skills, abilities, and lived experiences to reach their highest potential. Through support in career development, CV updates, interview practice, and peer support, he strives to remove the fence that surrounds the playing field and provide fairer opportunities for advancement.

Dale Carrington, chief nursing information officer at North Mid, said: “It is incredibly humbling to be shortlisted and I am proud of the progress that we have made at North Mid to make our services and staff development more inclusive. While there is still much more to do, there is a genuine collective commitment to make change and this national recognition will be a helpful boost as we press forward.”
